Sea of Thieves: The Curse of Brain Cancer
“Sea of Thieves is the game you’ve always dreamed about.” At least that is what my friend told me about this game. I bought it on a sale and it cost me 20 euros. In the quarantine my days were spent in some kind of motionless laziness, so I had time to dig deep into the ocean of Pirates.
The game came out in 2018, but it was announced at the Microsoft E3 2015 Conference. Everything is in First Person view, and you get a big map, which contains 63 islands. The whole point of this game is having fun with your friends, then burning the whole house down because someone thought it would be a GREAT IDEA TO KILL PLAYERS BY LIGHTNING (I don’t really want to talk about that). Anyway… Sea of Thieves is mostly about being a pirate: steal, kill or simply just look for treasures. But you can be a regular boring sailor as well, for example fishing and helping out a trade company, etc…
The graphics are great. The water is amazing, the ships are amazing, the whole game is like a wonderful fairy tale. The only difference is that a fairy tale won’t drive you crazy by little things. I have been playing this game since March, and I’ve made a list about the most annoying things.
- Skeleton ships: you’re on a beautiful relaxing voyage with your ship. You are drinking your rum, which has been waiting for you in the food storage for an hour, and suddenly one of these cute things shows up and makes you an angry chipmunk with diabetes.
- Krakens: big octopuses.
- Megalodon: “Jaws” from Bollywood.
- Other Players: You will find a player in 15 minutes. The Rule is: “kill or be killed.”
- Storms: If you’re in a storm, your ship will go in random directions, like a drunk man on a bicycle, and some kind of flood will appear in your ship. Lightnings….
In Sea of Thieves there are quests which will reward you with money. There are Tall Tales, which are some kind of longer stories and little quests. You can start these on Outposts, there are 7 on the map. Each time you launch the game you will wake up in a tavern on one of these outposts. There are shops where you can start quests and customizations. If you want to kill skeletons for money, you go to a Madame, but if you prefer looking for treasures, then you should go to the Gold Holder.

Although there are many things which can cause you to do a rage quit, it may be a fun experience if you play with your friends and if you like adventure games. Sometimes you can laugh your arse off because one of your friends is suffering, for example they blow themselves up with a Stronghold keg (gunpowder barrel) or launch themselves to the moon with a cannon or get killed by lightning strikes… Anyway… If you can keep your temper, you will enjoy this game.
In the Main Menu you can choose from two different game modes: one is adventure, where you are simply a pirate and can do whatever you want, while the other one is Arena, which is pure fighting between ships.

There are three types of ships to sail with: The Sloop’s crew is 1-2 pirates, The Brigantine’s deck can hold 2-3, and the Galleon is made for 4.

If you are just on a voyage, you can easily spot some kind of a skull cloud, which looks badass, and sometimes some kind of fog helps him make the scenario even more horrific and makes you think that you’re in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

This Skull will show you where a stronghold is. In those places you can find skeletons which will try to kill you. You kill them, you think you’re the best, but then you hear a horn, which is a warning that the next wave of skeletons are coming for you. After 16 waves, the Boss will show up. If you beat him, you’ll get a key, which belongs to the vault of the stronghold with numerous treasures. There are many kinds of skeletons in this game, altogether 5 types: The water type, which has corals grown all over his body; The Normal, which is a normal skeleton; The Golden; The Fire type, which is on fire; and the Shadow type, which can only be killed when there’s some kind of a glowing object near him (it could be the sun or a lamp).
In conclusion, this is a funny, adventurous and exciting game. In my opinion, it has a reasonable price. But if you start playing it, you should prepare that it will grab you, and you’ll be playing for hours.
PS: NGL still better game than fortnite (#fuckfortnite)
